STANDOUT STUDENTS

Whether they’re designing satellites, rockets or cargo planes, Polytechnique students shine at international competitions year after year.

/landingpages/aerospatiale/aerospatiale-partenariats/avion_cargo.jpgORONOS

Since 2012, Oronos has distinguished itself every year at the Experimental Sounding Rocket Association’s Intercollegiate Rocket Engineering Competition (IREC), a renowned contest held in the Utah desert that attracts the world’s best university teams. In addition to setting several accuracy records, Oronos Polytechnique took home first place in the 2014 Advanced Category and first place in the Basic Category in 2012 and 2013. Videos recorded by the team are spectacular. Sure-fire thrills!

AVION CARGO

With the Avion Cargo group, engineering takes flight! Their mission: design and build, according to very strict regulations, a remote-controlled aircraft and have it make a complete flight, including takeoff, in-flight turn, and landing, while lifting the heaviest possible payload. The team puts in consistently strong showings in the Society of Automotive Engineers’ annual Aero Design competition.

POLYORBITE

Some 30 students are part of the newly created PolyOrbite technical society. The disciplines represented in the group include computer, software, mechanical, aerospace and electrical engineering, as well as engineering physics. One of the society’s objectives is to enter the Canadian Satellite Design Challenge, a competition that extends over two years, during which the teams must design and build a small satellite known as a “cubesat.”
