GO-Poly Tutorials

 

As part of the GO-Poly program, a group of experienced students has prepared a series of tutorials to help you understand the essential tools you will use throughout your studies at Polytechnique Montréal.

Each tutorial is associated with a checklist in PDF format that will allow you to have all the important information in writing.

It is a wonderful initiative created in a peer support approach: BY students, FOR students.

GUIDED TOUR OF POLYTECHNIQUE MONTRÉAL

COMPUTER ACCESS CODE

In order to access Polytechnique Montréal's various computer tools and platforms, you will need to enter your personal identification information, i.e. your computer access code and password. This tutorial summarizes all the steps involved in retrieving the access code and password.

The Student File

The online student file is available to each student registered at Polytechnique Montréal. Through this file, you will be able to register for your semester, choose your courses, obtain an attestation of studies and benefit from many other functionalities presented in the tutorial.

Moodle

Moodle is a platform where you can find resources provided by your teachers. It also allows you to access distance learning courses and submit assignments and exams. There are also other resources that are not associated with credited courses, such as mandatory trainings, forms to access certain services, etc. Therefore, it is an indispensable tool that you should consult very frequently throughout your studies. The tutorial will introduce you to the basic functionalities of Moodle.

POLYTECHNIQUE MONTRÉAL EMAIL ADDRESS

All students have an email account with the following format: firstname.lastname@polymtl.ca. The inbox is accessible through the Horde platform at www.imp.polymtl.ca. The tutorial will introduce you to the basic functionalities of Horde.

Via

Via is a software used by teachers to give their courses online. The tutorial first explains how to join a course offered on VIA and how to interact with the teacher during classes. Also, additional host options are presented for team work.

Zoom

Zoom is a software used by teachers to give their courses online. First, the tutorial explains how to join a meeting and interact with the teacher during classes. Also, you will learn how to create a meeting and invite participants.

Microsoft Office 365

The Polytechnique's IT service provides students with Microsoft Office 365 for free. This allows you to access Microsoft softwares such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and more. The tutorial will guide you in obtaining the service on your personal computer.

VPN (Virtual Private Network)

Polytechnique Montréal's Virtual Private Network, more commonly known as a VPN, allows you to access certain computer services from your personal computer. For example, it will allow you to access Polytechnique Montréal's laboratory computers or to specific networks for research teams. The tutorial teaches you how to install, configure and use the VPN.

Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams is a collaborative work tool that allows you to manage your projects, communicate effectively with your teammates and work simultaneously on documents. The tutorial will help you discover the basic functionalities offered by Microsoft Teams.

Webex Meetings

Webex Meetings is a platform that allows you to organize video meetings. This tool is accessible through a browser or an application downloaded to your computer. It allows you to organize or to participate in meetings. During the meeting, several functionalities are available, including screen sharing. The tutorial allows you to quickly discover how the platform works.

Overleaf

Overleaf is a website giving access to a LaTeX editor that you can use in cooperation with colleagues. The tutorial shows you how to connect to Overleaf and how to create a new project and share it.
