Responding to your Offer of Admission

Accepting

You have received an offer of admission from Polytechnique Montréal, and have decided to accept it. Congratulations! We are proud to count you among us.

Log into your online admission account and accept the admission offer at Track your applications.

If you are having difficulty accepting the offer in your online account, please write to:

Note for international students

As soon as you receive your admission letter by email, you will have to begin your immigration procedures and preparations for your studies in Quebec. All new students admitted to Polytechnique Montréal must follow the usual procedure to obtain their immigration documents. It is possible that delays may be longer than normal.

To find out all about the 10 steps you need to take between now and your arrival at Polytechnique Montréal, visit our website for international students.

Changing Program

If you have been admitted to a program that no longer meets your expectations or that was not your first choice, you can request a program change. However, this request requires to file a new application for admission and to comply with the rules stipulated in the 7.11 article of the study regulations.

You have to start the program in which you have been admitted and then proceed with your request to change program. To do this, you must follow the procedures described on the STUDIES website and submit all the necessary documents before the deadline indicated for the concerned term.

The courses that you will complete in your first term may be credited for the new program in which you will be admitted, if your Supervisor or Reasearch Supervisor allows you to add these courses in your study plan.

Deferring

Still interested in studying at Polytechnique Montréal, but prefer to begin your studies next term? Polytechnique Montréal allows deferral for up to three consecutive terms (fall, winter and summer), but specific conditions may apply to students admitted to a research program.

When do classes start? When should I arrive at Polytechnique Montréal? Should I defer my arrival? For more information, see the Start of classes section below.

Research programs (Thesis Masters and PhD)

Before deferring your admission to a summer term, we encourage you to check the course offerings in your program for this term, as it is generally very limited. If necessary, validate your options with your Research Supervisor.

If your admission letter is still valid, you do not have to inform the Registrar of your intention to defer the start of your program, but you will need to contact your Research Supervisor to ensure that your arrival at a later term will not have a major impact on the project to which you had been assigned and, if applicable, that the financial aid which had been promised to you can also be deferred.

NON-Thesis Masters and DESS

Before deferring your admission to a summer term, we encourage you to check the course offerings in your program for this term, as it is generally very limited. If necessary, validate your options with your Supervisor.

If your admission letter is still valid, you do not need to notify the Registrar's Office or your Supervisor about your intention to defer your admission.

International students

CAQ Certificate to study

If you postpone your studies by one term (e.g. fall to winter or winter to summer), you will be able to continue using the same CAQ.  If you postpone your studies for more than one term (e.g., from winter to the following fall), you will need to obtain a new CAQ. You will have to apply again, provide all the required documents and pay the processing fee again.. Therefore, you will need to fill out a new application, pay corresponding processing fees, and send all requested documents. You may use your letter of admission which clearly indicates the possibility of deferral for three consecutive terms. In addition to the usual supporting documents, make sure to add a letter (dated and signed by you) that explains why you are requesting a new CAQ certificate, and indicates which term you choose to defer to. For further information...

Study permit

The letter of introduction for a study permit issued by a Canadian Visa Office maintains its validity in the event of deferral to the following term. No further action is needed, but just make sure that you can enter Canada before the deadline indicated on the letter.

If you have had an immigration medical examination and you delay the start of your program, you may have to take the examination again before coming to Canada.  The results of your exam remain valid for 12 months from the day you take it. For more information on the medical examination.

Declining

We respect your refusal of our offer. However, we also wish to inform you of your right to reverse your decision.

Polytechnique Montréal allows deferral for up to three consecutive terms, but special conditions may apply to students admitted to a research program. Please do not hesitate to let us know in the event you change your mind. We wish you all the best in your future studies.

Even if you do not intend to pursue an academic career at Polytechnique Montréal, we ask that you kindly inform us of your refusal so we can close your student file. To do so, go to your online admission account and answer the admission offer under Track your applications.
