Engineering Physics Profession

A word from the director

Welcome the Department of engineering physics, in Polytechnique Montréal. You will discover many academic programs and the impact of our research. Our mission: training physicist engineers who will satisfy advanced industry. Our students will be ready to work in promising sectors: R&D, process and material innovation or new products.

The Physicist Engineer
The physicist engineer applys the principle of physics to solve practical engineering problems. The physicist and engineer, he plays a liaison officer between the research and technology domains. He’s called to work in advanced technology, fundamental research, R&D, production.

Our programs are based on :

  • science & technics for: micro and nanotechnology, physics and engineering of thin films and surfaces, optics and photonics, biomedical engineering, energy and nuclear engineering;
  • the practical experience and experiment thanks to industrial traineeship and programs projects (with industrial purpose);
  • a strong relationship with industry and a scientific & technological first plan environment.

After your graduation, you will be a real Polytechnician.

With engineering physics you could become…
Project engineer, R&D or production engineer, advisor, CEO and entrepreneur, researcher, science journalist, CÉGEP or university professor, video game designer, financial modeller, astronaut…

JOB OPPORTUNITIES

Many companies hire graduates in Engineering Physics.  Some of our graduates have joined: the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission, L3-MAPPS, IBM Canada, Corning, Dalsa Semiconductor, the Atomic Energy for Canada Limited, EXFO, Forensic Technology, Hydro-Québec, the National Optics Institute, ITF labs, JDS Uniphase, Perkin-Elmer Optoelectronics, TéraXion, and many others!

The engineering physics experience

Il existe autant d'expérience en génie physique que de diplômés. Pour nourrir votre réflexion, Polytechnique Montréal et le département de génie physique diffusent de nombreux témoignages couvrant toutes sortes de parcours, de personnalités et carrières:
