Tier 1 Chair funding has been renewed for two École Polytechnique de Montréal research professors, the school confirmed today
during the official Canada Research Chairs announcement. Mohamad Sawan, holder of the Canada Research Chair in Intelligent
Medical Devices and a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering, has been awarded renewed funding for his Chair,
which is developing medical devices and miniature prostheses designed to improve quality of life for the sight and hearing
disabled, and people with certain types of paralysis. François Soumis, holder of the Canada Research Chair in Large
Transportation Network Optimization (LTNO) and a professor in the Department of Mathematical and Industrial Engineering, has
also obtained renewed funding for his Research Chair.
