STUDENT LIFE IN GRADUATE STUDIES

École Polytechnique’s Department of Chemical Engineering is the largest of its kind in North America. In a recent survey conducted by the Department of Teaching and Training, the vast majority of graduate students enrolled in this program stated they were satisfied with the quality of teaching.

All graduate students (MScA [research] and PhD) receive a minimum of $17,500 per year in the case of a research master’s and a minimum of $19,000 a year when studying toward a PhD. They can also supplement their income by working as lecturers, tutorial directors, lab directors or graders.

Upon enrolment, all students in the Chemical Engineering research program receive up to $1,000 for the purchase of a laptop computer.

Although French is the official language of École Polytechnique, the department welcomes several foreign students each year and gives them the option of writing pre-doctoral exams as well as theses and dissertations in English.

Getting involved is an big part of student life at Polytechnique! Chemical Engineering has a dynamic student committee that organizes a wide variety of activities (e.g., happy hours, prof vs. student quiz competitions). In addition, for several years now, students have been able to benefit from enriched training thanks to the many exchange programs and joint-supervision agreements with universities abroad.
