Today in Paris, at the Symposium sur les pôles de compétitivité français et les créneaux d'excellence québécois (France-Québec symposium on competitiveness and excellence clusters), Polytechnique Montréal and Univalor entered into a major technology co-operation and technology transfer agreement with Safran group. The signing ceremony was attended by Québec Premier Jean Charest and French Minister of Economic Affairs, Industry and Employment, Christine Lagarde.

At its 32nd annual Gala Prix Mérite scheduled for tomorrow evening at the Hotel Omni Mont-Royal, the Association des diplômés de l'École Polytechnique will honour two illustrious members. Jean-Pierre Gilardeau, who currently heads Alcoa's Global Primary Metals Technology and Manufacturing Group, will receive the 2010 Prix Mérite, while Jacques D. L'Ecuyer, President and CEO of 5N Plus Inc., will receive the Prix Innovation Technologique. The Polytechnique alumni association will also present its Prix Étudiant to Jessica Allard Bernier, a recent graduate of the bachelor's-level Computer Engineering program. Also attending will be merit award recipients of recent years, including such prominent Québecers as René Dufour (2001), Jean-Paul Gourdeau (1986), Bernard Lamarre (1980), Kazimir Olechnowicz (1995), Roland Doré (1993) and Michèle Thibodeau-DeGuire (1994).

The Groupe de réflexion et d'action pour une Haïti nouvelle (Reflection and Action Group for a New Haiti - GRAHN) today launched the book Construction d'une Haïti Nouvelle. Vision et contribution du GRAHN (Building a new Haiti. GRAHN's vision and contribution), and announced a short-term action plan. The book's publication follows on the historic "Reconstruire Haïti--Horizon 2030" symposium and international conference, held respectively last March and May at Polytechnique Montréal. The launch took place at 4 p.m. at the Ernest-Cormier Amphitheatre (Roger-Gaudry building) on the Université de Montréal campus.

Vision et contribution du GRAHN (Building a new Haiti. GRAHN's vision and contribution). The event will take place on November 3, from 4 to 8:30 p.m. in the Ernest-Cormier Amphitheatre, Université de Montréal (Roger-Gaudry building).

Montréal, October 25, 2010 - It wasn't a bird, it wasn't a plane! The red object that headed skyward over Drummond regional county municipality on October 10 was none other than Everest, the rocket designed by a team of Polytechnique Montréal students who were conducting its certification flight to obtain a Class 3 permit.
