Energy efficiency and forest biorefinery: sustainability in forest use

For the pulp and paper industry, biorefining is not only a high value-added activity, but also an opportunity to reduce its greenhouse gas (GHGs) emissions. Reduction potential comes in part from innovations in energy efficiency, but also from a different use of the resource. This is what will be discussed by our presenters:

    • Jean Paris, Codirector of the Research Unit on Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development of the Forest Biorefinery (E2D2BF) at Polytechnique Montreal

    • Enrique Mateos-Espejel, researcher at FPInnovations, specializing in forest biorefinery process integration

    • Peter Axegård, vice president Innventia AB, a Swedish specialist of biorefining and the pulp & paper industry

They will discuss energy efficiency research and new process integration in the Canadian pulp and paper industry, and the transformation that this industry has undergone in Sweden.
