What comes next after PhD?
In the Ph.D., we are often too busy to think about what comes next, but it is important to remind ourselves that the Ph.D. is a means and not an end in itself. This is why it is better to prepare oneself sooner than later. Do I want to pursue a job in the industry? Do I want to grab a teaching position? How can I use the doctoral degree to my advantage? This seminar will try to tackle these kinds of questions.
Biography
Luc Charbonneau is currently a postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Helsinki. His research focus on both CO2 and biomass conversion. He is also implementing Flow Chemistry (ideal flow reactors) as a new expertise in the Department of Chemistry. Prior to his actual position, Dr Charbonneau obtained a bachelor’s degree in chemistry at the University of Quebec at Montreal (UQAM). After his studies, he obtained a research associate position in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Polytechnique Montreal. At the same time, he followed part of the chemical engineering courses to deepen his knowledge in industrial chemistry. He worked under the supervision of Pr Guy, Pr Buschmann and Pr Chaouki. He left his research position to begin a master's degree in inorganic analytical chemistry and radiochemistry at Laval University. He then returned to Chemical Engineering Department, but this time at Laval University, to do a doctorate in heterogeneous catalysis with Pr Serge Kaliaguine. He returned briefly to Polytechnique Montreal to develop the inorganic analysis laboratory for Pr Chaouki.
