Mechanical structures are now lighter and more efficient. Meanwhile, noise and vibration requirements in machines arebecoming more restrictive. With the advent of composites and advanced materials, new challenges have emerged. This reality calls for a thorough understanding of the structures dynamic and acoustical behavior, and the development of novel control techniques.
The LAVA mission is to investigate noise and vibration problems in high-technology areas including aviation, rail and road transportation, nuclear energy production, and equipment for professional athletes. We use cutting-edge technologies to develop innovative methods and solutions to problems such as composite structure damping, mechanical impacts and noise reduction.
The laboratory is under the direction of Dr. Annie Ross, professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal. The LAVA multidisciplinary research work is carried out in collaboration with numerous industrial partners and laboratories.
