The steel-bridge and concrete-canoe committees make waves at the ASCE American regional competition and the Canadian national competition
The results of the two committees together placed them in third spot in the general rankings of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) American regional competition (Upstate New York section), which took place April 16 to 18 at the prestigious West Point Military Academy. The concrete-canoe team also finished third in the Canadian national competition.
ASCE American regional competition
The steel-bridge competition consists in building the lightest
possible steel bridge that can be assembled as quickly as possible with parts of a maximum length of three feet, and to obtain
the smallest possible deflection under a 2,400-lb load. The concrete-canoe competition consists in building a canoe
entirely out of concrete to race against other universities. The competition has four parts: an oral presentation, a technical
report, the races themselves, and the final product.
