Seminar by Oussama Moutanabbir, Full Professor in the Departement of Engineering Physics.
The combination of three attributes makes Group IV semiconductors uniquely versatile for quantum technologies: isotope engineering, spin-orbit coupling engineering, and band-structure and band-directness engineering. Professor Moutanabbir will first introduce these three knobs and then show how their interplay can be exploited to engineer a new family of low-dimensional systems. Three examples will be discussed, each harnessing a distinct flavour of hole states. He will describe their growth on silicon wafers, fundamental properties, and integration into devices to investigate their spin and optical behavior.
Together, these examples illustrate how atomic-scale engineering can enable new approaches to spin control and coupling, ultimately paving the way toward fully integrated quantum chips.
