Challenges and opportunities in electrical and electronic waste management. Case study: City of Santa Fe, Argentina
In this workshop, we will present a case study on municipal waste management, with a focus on electrical and electronic waste (WEEE), in the City of Santa Fe (Argentina).
The main goal of the management at the facility has been to establish a culture of valorization of resources by reusing/repairing objects or recovering materials that are usually considered waste.
This management strategy includes the recovery of different waste fractions such as:
organic waste
traditional recoverable waste (metal, paper, cardboard, glass, plastic, etc.)
clothing or textile materials
WEEE.
Specifically, the WEEE management includes:
Collection
Transport to the processing plant
First classification (separation)
Repair and reuse when possible
Disassembling and classification
Disposal of hazardous waste
Recovery of non-hazardous plastics, metals, and printed circuit boards
