[Séminaire de Génie Mécanique] Rotor Support Systems and Sealing Technologies by Azzedine Dadouche

Seminar by Azzedine Dadouche, Adjunct Professor in Mechanical Engineering at Polytechnique Montreal, Research Officer at National Research Council, Ottawa

Today’s rotating machines are required to operate in extreme conditions such as higher speeds and loads as well as elevated temperatures. Jet engines represent a perfect example for these requiremets. In addition, environmental conditions such as contamination represent another challenge that needs to be addressed by newer technologies for better performance of rotating components especially bearings and sealing systems.

The objective of this lecture is to present the various modern technologies of rotor support systems that have been investigated at the National Research Council over the last decade to address some of those technological and environmental challenges. Examples such as textured journal bearings for land-based machines, foil bearings for aircraft aircycle machines, and rolling-element bearings for gasturbine engines will be given. A quick overview on sealing systems such as abradable seals for aero applications will also be given.
