Workshop: "How to Stand Out: Interviews for Academic Roles" (In English)

Applying for a faculty position: is it an art, a mystery... or a matter of well-planned strategy?

In this workshop, you will go behind the scenes of an academic job interview and the faculty selection process at Polytechnique Montréal. You will receive advice from David Saussié, Director of the Electrical Engineering Department, on how to put together a strong application (including a research statement, teaching statement, and practical tips for enhancing your academic CV). This will be followed by tips on planning for the interview, such as questions to prepare and qualities to demonstrate.

At the end of this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Describe the different stages of the faculty hiring process;
  • Identify the essential nonacademic skills to demonstrate (communication, interpersonal skills, open-mindedness);
  • Promote collaboration in an academic environment;
  • Structure a strong and compelling application;
  • Anticipate the most common interview questions;
  • Integrate DEI into your professional approach.
