Sustainable polymer products for automotive and other industrial applications

Sustainable polymer products for automotive and other industrial applications

How do we shape future materials towards a lower environmental footprint? Reduction of a material’s environmental impact can be achieved at different stages of its life cycle: fabrication (for example through synthesis from waste or renewable resources), service life (for example through extended lifetime or specific properties) and end-of-life (for example through designated end-of-life characteristics).

In the last 15 years, the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) has worked intensively on the development of environmentally friendly materials for industrial applications. This presentation will cover some of the research areas investigated by NRC’s Polymer Bioproducts team. The focus will be put on the valorization of biomass to design polymer products based on renewable resources for packaging and automotive applications, and on lightweighting strategies to address the needs of the transportation industry.

Still think that industrial polymers cannot be green? Come and attend this presentation!
