Prof. Yves-Marie Abraham of HEC Montreal will host the lecture series "Non-technical aspects of  simulation based engineering science and Innovation" by videoconference.

The title of the lecture will be: What is involved in the Anthropocene?

Abstract:
In the context of the current ecological disaster, many people expect technology, and therefore engineers, to save us from self-destruction. However, it is not at all certain that techno-scientific progress will lead to the emergence of ecologically viable forms of social life. Moreover, this progress involves significant indirect costs, especially with regard to a certain conception of human freedom. Hence the proposal, with which this conference will conclude, to promote the development of engineering that is at the service of sustainable, just and emancipatory techniques.
