As the geometric complexity of engineering applications increases, the role of the grid generation has become a critical step in the overall procedure of numerical simulations. The progress achieved in meshing techniques stems from the requirements of industrial applications and has followed the capabilities of geometric modelling, workstation technologies and computational geometry. Commercial codes and practical programs aren't enough to master the scientific fundamentals required in engineering education. They are too problem-specific and lack the necessary variety in methods, algorithms and data structures. At the completion of these lectures, it is expected that the student will — appreciate the role of grid generation in the overall numerical simulation methodology ; — know and understand several current meshing techniques.
