Title: Production planning: Review and future outlook
Speaker: Kerem Akartunali – University of Strathclyde Glasgow, United Kingdom
In this talk, I will give a brief overview of production planning (also as often referred to as 'lotsizing' in the literature) problems, with a focus on more complicated problems such as those with multiple levels as well as on more recent developments. This review will not aim to provide rigorous technical details but rather present some ideas and approaches in higher level. As the network structure of these problems are essentially linked to the classical fixed charge network problem, and the more complicated problems have strong commonalities with problems from supply chain management and transportation settings, I will also briefly explore such a perspective for potential opportunities. Current state of the art of the area and immediate and longer term future directions will be discussed to conclude the talk.
