Remembering and reflecting

The pain has eased and life goes on ... but we will never forget the 13 Polytechnique Montréal students and one staff member who lost their lives on December 6, 1989, as well as those who remain wounded by this tragedy.

As in recent years, the Polytechnique community has chosen to favour a simple commemoration, more personal in nature. Therefore, early on the morning of December 6, a bouquet of 14 white roses will be placed before the memorial plaque, and campus flags will be lowered to half-mast. White ribbons, symbol of the struggle to stop violence against women, will be available at the offices of Polytechnique’s General Secretariat and Legal Affairs and Governance department (Room B-210).

Université de Montréal is joining in this day of remembrance and reflection by organizing a panel discussion on the topic “Quoi de neuf pour prévenir les agressions contre les femmes?” (What’s new for preventing assaults against women?) on Friday, December 6, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. (3200–Jean-Brillant building, Room B-3345).

The memory endures...
