Biography
Antonios Katsamakas has been an Assistant Professor at Polytechnique Montréal since April 2026. At Polytechnique, he is a member of the Group for Research in Structural Engineering at the Department of Civil, Geological and Mining Engineering. He earned his Ph.D. in 2024 from ETH Zurich, where he also worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher.
His research focuses on structural and earthquake engineering, with expertise in seismic isolation, modular structures, structural retrofitting, and 3D printing. His research employs large-scale experimental and numerical methods. In addition to his academic work, he has notable professional experience, having designed two prestressed concrete bridges in Germany.
He has co-authored 12 journal and 40 conference papers. His doctoral thesis received the 2024 Hilti Prize for Innovative Research (for the best ETH Zurich thesis combining scientific excellence with practical relevance) and the 2025 Culmann Prize from ETH Zurich’s Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering. He also received the 2024 Research Award of the Anti-Seismic Systems International Society. His work has been featured by the BBC and Scientific American.
