Poly takes second place at the 2012 Canadian Mining Games

For the second year running, Polytechnique Montréal students took second  place overall at the Canadian Mining Games, whose 22nd annual edition was held February 23–26 at Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario.

The three-day event brought together 120 mining engineering students. The 10 university teams competed in 20 events, including mineral separation, mine design, mine rescue and jackleg drilling.

The Polytechnique delegation excelled in several events:

  • 1st place: AutoCAD design
  • 1st place: Mystery event
  • 2nd place: Mine design
  • 2nd place: Mine rescue
  • 2nd place: Drilling and blasting
  • 2nd place: Equipment handling
  • 2nd place: Jackleg drilling
  • 2nd place: Series of problems
  • 3rd place: Environment

 

The 12-student Polytechnique delegation was composed of: Mélanie Archambault, Tyler Arko, Johannie Bédard, Nicholas Bergeron,  Louis-Pierre Campeau,  Jean Collard, Marie-Claire Dagenais, Simon Gélinas, Mathieu Hotte, Alexandre Michaud-Morasse, Marc-Antoine Richer and Anik Trépanier.
