Carl-Éric Aubin, full professor in Polytechnique Montréal's Department of Mechanical Engineering and researcher at Sainte-Justine University Hospital Centre, received his award at the 28th Annual Foundation of Stars Ball, held October 21 at Le Windsor in Montréal.

The work in spinal biomechanics research led by Professor Aubin's team, in collaboration with Sainte-Justine UHC and Medtronic of Canada, is revolutionizing orthopedic surgery and positioning Québec as a world leader in the treatment of disorders of the spinal column. This is bringing hope to patients with scoliosis, an abnormal curvature of the spine that affects 4% of Canadian children, with 90% of active cases being girls during the rapid-growth years of puberty. The future for these young patients is now far brighter because of this university-hospital-corporate team effort.
