Jeux de génie 2013: a great success!

January 9, 2013 - Source : NEWS

From January 3 to 7, 2013, Polytechnique Montréal welcomed nearly 450 future engineers from 12 engineering faculties and schools across the province for the 23rd Jeux de genie, whose theme this year was Les jeux dont vous êtes le héros (“the games where you're the hero”). Quite a challenge for the organizing committee made up of Polytechnique students!

The Jeux de génie are the biggest gathering of future engineers in Québec. Seeking out partners, organizing challenges, providing participant transportation and lodgings, composing juries, organizing social activities and a big banquet, producing documentation and handling public relations... all this was orchestrated entirely, and masterfully, by students as an extracurricular activity.

The LA MACHINE competition, held at the Montréal Science Centre, was by all accounts the peak moment of the Jeux. The Polytechnique delegation made an excellent showing, finishing in third place behind McGill University (second place) and École de Technologie Supérieure (ÉTS) (first place).

DONATION TO THE MOVEMBER ORGANIZATION
It is traditional for the Jeux de génie to help out a community organization. This year, participants mobilized to raise more money than in past years. As such, more than $5,000 was raised for Movember, an organization that supports men's health.

The 24th Jeux de génie will take place next year in Québec City, at Université Laval.

Congratulations to all the delegations and to the organizing committee!

About the Jeux de genie
Since 1990, the Jeux de génie have allowed undergraduate engineering students in Québec to challenge themselves in a friendly atmosphere. This competition is part of the activities of the Québec Confederation for Engineering Student Outreach (QCESO). Over the years, the Jeux de génie have become very popular, representing the biggest engineering gathering in Québec. The event is hosted by turns by various university institutions that offer engineering programs.
