Swimmer Frédéric Le Blanc named Athlete of the Year at annual Carabins awards gala
Swimmer Frédéric Le Blanc, a civil engineering student at Polytechnique Montréal, and soccer player Éva Thouvenot-Hébert (HEC Montréal) were the big winners at the annual Université de Montréal Carabins awards gala, held March 28.
During this awards evening honouring outstanding achievements in sports for the 2011–2012 season, these two winners
earned the title “Athlete of the Year” within the Montréal organization.
Frédéric's accomplishments this season have certainly had the walls of the CEPSUM sports complex echoing with applause. The 20-year-old athlete from Longueuil was one of the stars of the Canadian Interuniversity Sport league national swim championships held at U de M for the first time since 1992.
Frédéric won three medals, including a gold in the 200-metre breaststroke with a time of 2:10:29, a new record for a swimmer in the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ). Frédéric also took silver medals in the 100-metre breaststroke and 200-metre medley.
Our heartiest congratulations to Frédéric!
