An accreditation committee set up by Engineers Canada, the CEAP is mandated to assess undergraduate engineering programs in higher education institutions to determine whether they meet accreditation standards approved by the organization's board. If institutions meet those standards, the CEAP grants an educational institution an accreditation which confirms that students receive the knowledge required to be accepted as engineers in Canada. As part of this process, the CEAP also takes into account the faculty and support staff involved, as well as the administration, laboratories, library, and various physical installation an institution has at its disposal.

CEAP's role is essential to the success of Engineers Canada. The various activities orchestrated by the Board ensure that Canada's engineering education system remains among the best in the world. In addition, the CEAP helps to establish national standards for engineering education. As well, it provides provincial and territorial engineering regulatory bodies with the expertise and efficiency necessary to evaluate engineering education.

"I'd like to express my sincere gratitude for the confidence that the Engineers Canada Board has placed in me by appointing me President of the CEAP. I sincerely hope to honour this important position by rising to the responsibilities that come with it. I am committed to making every effort to complete the work accomplished by many notable groups - including the group tasked with the definition of engineering design, and the group responding to recommendations related to Engineers Canada's "30 in 30" initiative," stated Pierre G. Lafleur.

Since 2013, Professor Lafleur has been a member of CEAP, and has chaired several accreditation visits and working groups prior to being elected vice-president of the committee in July 2020, and becoming president in July 2021. Further, he is a Fellow of Engineers Canada and of the Canadian Academy of Engineering.

A specialist in the field of polymer treatment and plastics properties, Pierre G. Lafleur has nearly 40 years of experience in chemical engineering. He is also the author of over a hundred publications on numerous subjects, including plastics and biopolymer recycling. His work has been published in scientific journals and conference proceedings as well as many technical reports.

Professor Lafleur studied engineering at Polytechnique Montréal and obtained a PhD from McGill University in the field of plastics processing. Before joining Polytechnique's faculty in 1985, he worked for several years at Northern Telecom, and at the Institute of Industrial Materials. Since his debut as a professor, he has taught several courses and has helped train many master's and doctoral students at Polytechnique Montréal. Notably, Professor Lafleur has served as Director of the Department of Chemical Engineering, Director - Academic and Training, and Director of Academic and International Affairs at Polytechnique Montréal.

We wish Professor Lafleur every success in his new role!
