Now in its 14th consecutive year, this award honours a mid-career researcher who has thus far made an outstanding contribution to the field of optimization. Professor Lodi's wide range of fundamental contributions to the practice and theory of optimization is what made him stand out, and ultimately earn the Farkas Award.
The INFORMS Optimization Society is the leading international association for professionals in research in operations, analytics, management science, economics, behavioural science, statistics, artificial intelligence, data science, applied mathematics, and other related fields.
“I’m deeply honored to be receiving the 2021 INFORMS Optimization Society Farkas Prize, and am proud to be in such a good company in terms of distinguished past winners. I’m very happy to share this prize with my collaborators from more than 20 years of research, and with all the institutions wherein I have spent the first part of my scientific career, namely the University of Bologna, IBM and Polytechnique Montreal.”
Professor Andrea Lodi is an internationally renowned researcher who specializes, among other things, in the application of artificial intelligence to early-stage technology companies. Professor Lodi holds the Canada Excellence Research Chair in Data Science for Real-Time Decision Making and is the Co-Scientific Director of the Institut de valorisation des données - IVADO at Polytechnique Montréal. He has published over 100 articles in numerous scientific journals. He received his PhD in Systems Engineering from the University of Bologna in 2000 and was a Herman Goldstine Fellow at the IBM Mathematical Research Center in New York from 2005-2006. Andrea Lodi is editor of the "Design and Analysis of Algorithms - Discrete" section of the INFORMS Journal on Computing and is or has been involved in the editorial activities of publications such as Mathematical Programming, Mathematics of Operations Research, Management Science and Mathematical Programming Computation.
Awarded since 2006, The Farkas Prize is named after Gyula Farkas, a Hungarian mathematician and theoretical physicist who is known for his theory of linear inequalities.
Andrea Lodi will receive the award at the INFORMS national conference, to be held Oct. 24-27, 2021 in California. Along with $3,000 USD and a certificate of recognition, this prestigious award will provide Professor Lodi with the opportunity to present his research at a national INFORMS meeting and to publish an article in the association's magazine.
Congratulations to Professor Lodi!
