Polytechnique presents its 2011-2012 sustainability report
The Polytechnique Montréal Rapport de durabilité 2011–2012 (2011–2012 sustainability report, in French only), titled En action vers un développement durable (“Taking action for sustainable development”), along with report's Faits saillants (highlights, in French only), are now available online. This third edition of the sustainability report presents the year's major accomplishments and covers the period from May 1, 2011, to April 30, 2012.
One of the milestones achieved by Polytechnique this year has of course been obtaining Sustainable Campus certification from the Sierra Youth Coalition in September 2011.
While the past year set out the path for engaging the Polytechnique community in the sustainability process, this year was marked by the formal integration of sustainable development principles into administrative processes, particularly with the Polytechnique Board of Directors' adoption of the 2012–2017 strategic plan and institutional values. In addition to describing the process's progress, this year's report presents the summary of the concrete accomplishments and actions taken in relation to the five major orientations of the 2011–2014 action plan adopted by Polytechnique's Assemblée de direction.
“To ensure the longevity of our work and to integrate sustainable development into every facet of our mission, it was essential to establish a true culture of sustainability at Polytechnique,” says Louise Millette, Chair of CODDEP (the Polytechnique sustainable development committee) and Director of the Department of Civil, Geological and Mining Engineering. “I am confident that the university community's growing involvement will make it possible for us to support and further improve our commitment to sustainable development for current and future generations.”
A series of five strategic challenges and thirteen 2011–2014 action plan implementation challenges are set out in the report to reaffirm Polytechnique's commitment to pursuing the process of integrating sustainable development principles into its activities in 2012–2013.
Thanks to the students, professors and staff at Polytechnique, as well as to the Polytechnique partners who helped prepare the 2011–2012 sustainability report.
