Recently, Professor Khomh was honoured with the 2019 CS-Can | Info-Can Outstanding Young Computer Science Researcher Award, in recognition of his pioneering work in the field of software maintenance and evolution. Professor Khomh is the first-ever winner from the Polytechnique community, the sole recipient of this award category, and one of only two CS-Can | Info-Can award winners from a Québec university establishment.

Awarded since 2009, the CS-Can | Info-Can Young Computer Science Researcher Award recognizes research excellence in Canadian computer science departments, schools, and faculties. The award celebrates the best and brightest early-career faculty members, who are within the first ten years of their careers, post-PhD completion.

As explanation for awarding Professor Khomh this distinction, CS-Can | Info-Can notes that among many other impressive achievements, Professor Khomh has produced cutting-edge research about the impact of developers’ design decisions on software quality. For example, the Polytechnique Professor’s research about the impact of design patterns and design anti-patterns on software system quality has been cited nearly 2,000 times according to Google Scholar, an online academic research engine.

In addition to the above accomplishments, CS-Can | Info-Can also remarks that the Polytechnique professor has written more than 150 peer-reviewed research papers that have been cited over 3,600 times. “His research has had a profound impact on his students, his department, his university, and the international community,” the organization notes.

Over the course of his career, Professor Khomh’s work has received numerous awards, and his papers have been honoured with best paper distinctions, including three 10-year Most Influential Paper (MIP) Awards. He is among the most highly-cited software engineering researchers of his generation, says CS-Can | Info-Can, adding: “A recent bibliometric assessment of software engineering scholars has ranked him second in the world and first in Canada in the most active early-career researchers category.”

Professor Khomh’s research has also attracted significant financial support; to date he has received over $2.5 million in research funding from Québec and Canadian funding agencies.

In 2016, Professor Khomh was recognized for his teaching abilities with the Prix Méritas du meilleur enseignant des génies informatique et logiciel aux études supérieures (Best Graduate-level Computer and Software Engineering Professor) from the Association des étudiants des cycles supérieurs de Polytechnique – AÉCSP (Polytechnique Montréal Graduate Student Association). Also in the context of his educational responsibilities, Professor Khomh has supervised or co-supervised numerous engineering students: two postdoctoral students, seven doctoral students, 11 master’s students, and 10 undergraduate students.

Three of his PhD students have been nominated for Polytechnique Montréal’s Best Doctoral Thesis Award, and one won the 2017 Best Computer and Software Engineering Doctoral Thesis Award. Further, five Master's students under his tutelage have been nominated for Polytechnique Montréal’s Best Master's Thesis Award, and another went on to win the 2019 award for Best Thesis in Computer and Software Engineering.

Our warmest congratulations to Professor Khomh!
