Polytechnique Montréal once again makes a splash at Laval Virtual!
Supervised by Olivier Gendreau, faculty lecturer, the four students – William Bussière, Guillaume Charron,
Karine Leduc and Dominic Morin – finished third among 14 teams from North America, Europe and Asia in the Demos
category. Their demo, “Neon,” is a fun and social physical training system that allows players to take part in an
obstacle course using movement sensors. Other players can change the course in real time using a mobile application. Thanks to
an original algorithm series, they interact with the runner while he or she controls the character with his or her own
movements, with no calibration necessary.
In the Limited Time category, a competition focused on 30 consecutive hours of programming and modelling,
each of the teams had to create an interactive, real-time 3D application using a mandatory mystery object; a specific object
was assigned to each team. Directly in relation to the mystery object it was given – a hook – the Polytechnique
Montréal team presented a game on a fishing theme called Save the Fish, with technical features enabling real-time facial
recognition using an interactive mobile application.
Laval Virtual is Europe's biggest event dedicated to virtual reality, augmented reality and new uses for virtual technologies. With 40 nationalities represented and more than 15,000 visitors, Laval Virtual is an internationally renowned gathering.
Our heartiest congratulations!
