Gilles L'Espérance wins award from Metal Powder Industries Federation
Gilles L'Espérance, full professor in the Department of Mathematics and Industrial Engineering and Director of the Centre for Characterization and Microscopy of Materials, (cm)2, at Polytechnique Montréal, has received the prestigious Distinguished Service to Powder Metallurgy award from the Metal Powder Industries Federation (MPIF) for his exceptional career.
The
award, which was created in 1968, was presented to Professor L'Espérance by Matt Bulger, President of MPIF, at the
International Conference on Powder Metallurgy and Particulate Materials, which took place in Chicago on June 25. The award
recognizes professionals who have dedicated a significant portion of their career to one or more areas of the metal powder
industry and who have made an exceptional contribution.
Professor L'Espérance has been teaching at Polytechnique for 31 years. He has worked in various metal powder companies in
addition to collaborating part-time with the research and development department at Domfer Metal Powders. He has a doctorate
from the University of Birmingham (UK), as well as holding three patents. He is a Fellow of APMI International and the Canadian
Academy of Engineering. While remaining very active in the business community, he is also a soccer and hockey coach.
