Professors Arthur Pelton and Christopher Bale honoured by the Minerals, Metals and Materials Society
This prestigious award, which recognizes renowned specialists in the field of extraction and the processing of non-ferrous
materials, was presented for their work on the development of the FactSage system (http://www.crct.polymtl.ca) (http://www.crct.polymtl.ca), a thermodynamics application and database program.
Professor Bale was President of the Canadian Metallurgical Society in 1988. He is a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Mining Metallurgy and received the Canadian Metal Chemistry Award in 2000.
Professor Pelton is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, an E.W.R. Steacie Memorial Fellow, a Fellow of ASM International and the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy, and Petroleum. He has received the CODATA award, the Gibbs Triangle Award of Calphad as well as the Hume-Rothery prize conferred by the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining.
The two scientists co-founded the Centre for Research in Computational Thermochemistry in 1982 and co-manage the institution.
The 2005 Extraction & Processing Distinguished Lecture Award will be presented officially during the next annual meeting of the Minerals, Metals and Materials Society, which is scheduled to be held in San Francisco February 13-1.
