On October 12, at the banquet held for the second edition of the Francopol conference on cybercrime, Gervais Ouellet, coordinator of Polytechnique's certificate programs in online investigation and online fraud, was honoured to receive the Francopol award for the development, providing of training and research to fight cybercrime. The ceremony was held at the École nationale de police du Québec in Nicolet.

This high distinction is given to law enforcement group members, public organizations and private corporations that have become leaders in fighting cybercrime in their respective fields thanks to their avant-garde thinking, initiatives and efforts.

During the conference, Radio-Canada reports were broadcast on radio and television following interviews with Mr. Ouellet and François Godin, a lecturer in the online investigation certificate program. The reports dealt with the phenomenon of criminal gang members taking over social networks, a topic that various experts spoke about at the conference.

Mr. Ouellet is currently working on designing an IT network computer security certificate, which will increase the number of cybercrime certificate programs provided at Polytechnique to three, and which will allow students to obtain a cumulative bachelor's degree in the field.
