Polytechnique Montréal offers new certificate in IT network computer security
Intrusion, piracy, viruses, Trojan horses… today, information technology (IT) networks face more threats than ever before. Identifying and preventing these risks, and providing knowledge and developing skills for dealing with related events—these are the goals of the new IT network computer security certificate offered by Polytechnique Montréal's Centre de formation continue (centre for continuing education) starting in the fall of 2012.
This new program is designed for people working in the private and public sectors who are concerned with protecting their
organizations' network security.
Concrete training anchored in current issues
“The courses, a mix of theory and practice, will be
taught by professionals in the IT field who deal with IT security issues daily,” explained Gervais Ouellet, co-ordinator
of the certificate.
Another advantage of the program: the proactive approach of the teaching team, which will adapt course content to current
events. “If, during the training period, a new form of cyberattack appears, it will be analyzed and inserted into the
program,” Mr. Ouellet added.
The courses will be offered online, which will make it possible to reach students located outside Montréal.
A cumulative bachelor's degree in high demand!
The IT network computer security certificate is a logical
next step to the certificate in online investigation and certificate in online fraud, both exclusive to Polytechnique's Centre de
formation continue.
Students who have successfully completed all three certificates may obtain a cumulative bachelor's degree. “Graduates in
this field are assured excellent career perspectives,” said Mr. Gervais. “Computer crime has become a scourge.
Businesses and organizations are very interested in digital investigation specialists.”
Applications for admission to the new IT network computer security certificate may be submitted as of now. Classes will begin
in September.
