China Scholarship Council
The China Scholarship Council (CSC) is a non-profit institution with legal person status affiliated with the Ministry of Education. The objective of the CSC is to provide, in accordance with the law, statutes and relevant principles and policies of China, financial assistance to the Chinese citizens wishing to study abroad and to the foreign citizens wishing to study in China in order to develop the educational, scientific and technological, and cultural exchanges together and economic and trade cooperation between China and other countries.
Scholarship Program
The Doctoral Scholarship Program is offered to excellent candidates who will undertake studies at École Polytechnique, Montreal, in partnership with targeted Chinese Universities.
Admission Requirements
- In order to qualify for the doctoral scholarship program, students must have been admitted to a Doctoral program at École Polytechnique. - Be a registered student in one of the Chinese universities recognized by the China Scholarship Council.
Language requirements
The official language of instruction at École Polytechnique is French. However, at the time of their admission, graduate students may request approval to write their thesis in English. Students may choose to register in French language courses at Université de Montréal (located on the same campus as École Polytechnique) in order to improve their proficiency in French.

Students who receive an admission offer in a Ph.D. program at École Polytechnique will be evaluated and referred by their home university to the China Scholarship Council.
The admission offers from École Polytechnique will specify that if and when the student is granted a scholarship from the China Scholarship Council, he will be exempted from paying tuition fees to our institution. To qualify for this exemption, students must submit proof of the received scholarship to the Registrar’s office. However, scholarship holders must still pay the administrative and diverse student fees, which amounted to approximately 600$ CAN per year in 2010-2011. This amount is subject to change each year.
