7. Housing

Searching for accommodation is a task best accomplished on the spot — unless you know someone here able to search on your behalf. Making reservations from a distance is not recommended, even if you’ve seen photos of the rent accommodation.

As a result, we strongly suggest that you book accommodation in a hotel or youth hostel for the week immediately following your arrival. This should give you adequate time to find more permanent housing. Late August/early September is a busy tourist time, particularly because of the Montréal World Film Festival. If you don’t book in advance, you may have trouble getting a hotel room.

This page lists a number of temporary accommodation options.

For more information on accommodation in Montréal, see our Housing section.
