International Science Diplomacy Research Chair for Arctic and Space Cooperation
The International Science Diplomacy Research Chair for Arctic and Space Cooperation based at Polytechnique Montréal is a unique transdisciplinary program dedicated to advancing scientific and technological collaboration in extreme and geopolitically sensitive environments, including:
- Northern circumpolar regions
- Outer space and celestial bodies
This approach is based on collaboration that takes into account on-the-ground realities and the perspectives of the communities involved, within an integrated vision of sustainable development for both the North and Space. The Chair also contributes to training a new generation of scientific and technological diplomats dedicated to serving people and our home planet.

" The northern regions and outer space face many shared challenges that must be addressed peacefully and collaboratively to shape our collective future, including sustainability, sovereignty and state jurisdiction, and international cooperation.
This International Chair brings together science, diplomacy, and technology to meet the needs of our communities, particularly Indigenous communities, and to promote equitable and sustainable development in the North. It also seeks to establish ethical and inclusive frameworks for capacity building in northern regions, space exploration, and the peaceful use of outer space.
By placing science at the service of peace and climate justice, we also recognize the fragility of these environments and the need for development that respects both ecosystems and the peoples who inhabit them. We aspire to build bridges between the North and outer space, two mirrors of our planet and its destiny."
