Results of the 22nd Canadian Engineering Competition, CEC 2006

The names of the winners have been announced from among the 150 students who took part in this past weekend's 22nd Canadian Engineering Competition, the largest engineering competition of its kind in the world. CEC 2006 was held at the Plaza Hotel Centre-Ville and at École Polytechnique de Montréal. A jury composed of industry and university representatives judged the performances of contestants and teams, and the three winners in each category received awards of $3,000, $2,000 and $1,000 respectively. Six special awards were also presented.

The CEC, a unique opportunity for undergraduate engineering students to put their professional skills to the test, was created by the Canadian Federation of Engineering Students (CFES), an association with some 55,000 members in 33 engineering institutions. The first CEC took place at the University of Waterloo in 1985. Each year for over 20 years, the competition has been held at a different Canadian institution.

Founded in 1873, École Polytechnique de Montréal is one of Canada's leading engineering institutions in terms of both teaching and research. It is the largest engineering school in Québec as far as its student population and the scope of its research activities are concerned. École Polytechnique provides instruction in 11 engineering specialties and is responsible for more than one-quarter of university research in engineering in Québec. The school has 220 professors and nearly 6,000 students. Its operating budget is $85 million, in addition to a $66.7-million research and infrastructure fund. Polytechnique is affiliated with Université de Montréal.
