MEDIA RELEASE The Education and Career Training Show - October 12 to 15, 2005 - Place Bonaventure

At this year's Salon éducation, formation carrière (Education and Career Training Show), which is taking place at Place Bonaventure from Wednesday, October 12, to Saturday, October 15, Polytechnique doesn't just present the institution: it also shines the spotlight on students who, thanks to their engineering know-how, breathe life into some extraordinary projects!
October 11, 2005

You'll find Polytechnique at two different places during the show: at Booth #215, and in the demonstration area of the Québec Ministry of Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade's technology pavilion at booth #629. Here you'll get a close-up view of the Formula SAE and SAE cargo plane, besides taking in scientific demonstrations conducted by the Folie Technique committee. Better yet, on Saturday, there will be samples of beer brewed entirely by student members of POLYBROUE! The Polytechnique students who make up the various groups and committees come from all levels of every engineering discipline; extracurricular activities such as these, combining advanced technology with project management, considerably enrich their training as tomorrow's engineers.

At the Polytechnique booth (#215)

Formula SAE: 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds!
Since the 1990s, Polytechnique students have shown exceptional ingenuity in designing ultra-high-performance Formula SAE prototype race cars. Come and see the latest model, able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds!

Cargo plane: Engineering takes wing in the Avion Cargo committee!
A radio-controlled aircraft, designed and built according to strict parameters, able to execute a complete flight (takeoff, turning in mid-air, landing) and carry the maximum cargo.  Ready for takeoff?

At the Polytechnique booth (#215) and Ministry booth (#629)

Folie Technique
They're crazy, those engineering students...crazy about science and making discoveries! Come and witness their "wild and crazy" approach to scientific demonstrations, and don't forget to take part in their interactive questionnaire! On the agenda: construction of a bridge made from wooden skewers and newsprint...
Careful: the madness might infect you with the desire to expand your horizons!

POLYBROUE
Welcome to the POLYBROUE Bistro!
You are cordially invited to quench your thirst by sampling beers brewed entirely by Polytechnique students! POLYBROUE, a pet project of the school's chemical engineering students, has several varieties of ale to its credit and is currently hard at work producing a beer that's good for your health. Beer lovers rejoice: a truly well-engineered brew will soon be on tap!

And the programs?

You have questions about engineering? We have the answers. Come and meet us at Booth #215 where we'll be happy to share all the news regarding our engineering study programs and facilities. What's more, the engineering profession will be presented from every angle, allowing you to find out what captures your imagination most!

Founded in 1873, École Polytechnique de Montréal is one of Canada's top engineering teaching and research institutions and first in Québec for the size of its student body and the scope of its research activities. Polytechnique offers courses and programs in 11 engineering specialties and conducts nearly one-quarter of university engineering research in Québec. The school has over 220 professors, nearly 6,000 students and an annual operating budget of $85 million, in addition to a $66.7-million-dollar annual research and infrastructure fund. Polytechnique is affiliated with the Université de Montréal.
