Media invitation - To render homage to the women who lost their lives December 6, 1989, Polytechnique will award its fifth annual Order of the White Rose scholarship

November 28, 2019

Montréal – Polytechnique Montréal invites the media to attend the fifth annual awarding of the Order of the White Rose bursary, a $30,000 award that honours a female engineering student pursuing graduate (Master’s or Doctoral) studies in engineering at the university of her choice, anywhere in the world. Thursday December 5, at 11 am in the Galerie Rolland, on the 6th floor of Polytechnique Montréal’s Main Building, media and Polytechnique community members are invited to attend the award ceremony. Three previous Order of the White Rose recipient will also be in attendance. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the anti-women attack of December 6, 1989.

The Order of the White Rose was established in 2014 by Polytechnique in homage to those 14 murdered women, those who were injured, their families, and the professors and staff that witnessed this traumatic event.

The winner of the 2019 Order of the White Rose was unanimously selected by a prestigious jury comprising deans and chancellors of prominent Canadian universities, and which is presided over by Michèle Thibodeau-DeGuire, Polytechnique Montréal’s President of the Board of Directors, and the institution’s first-ever female civil engineering graduate. The selection of a winner was made after close examination of all submitted candidacies, and careful deliberation.

Present to award the bursary will be Polytechnique Montréal’s President, Philippe A. Tanguy, as well as the Order of the White Rose’s godmothers, namely Michèle Thibodeau-DeGuire and Nathalie Provost, Polytechnique graduate who was injured during the 1989 attack.
