2013

Since 2002, the Association des doyens des études supérieures au Québec (ADÉSAQ—Association of Québec deans of graduate studies), in collaboration with the Fonds de recherche Québec (Québec research funds), has organized a competition to reward the best doctoral dissertations defended throughout the preceding year in each of the three major research sectors.

Shulabh Gupta took the Prix d'excellence for the natural sciences and engineering sector for the quality of his doctoral dissertation, titled “Dispersion Engineered Real-Time Analog Signal Processing Components and Systems,” under the supervision of Professor Christophe Caloz of the Department of Electrical Engineering. He received his award on September 26 during the Journée de la relève en recherche (day for the next generation of researchers). Mr. Gupta also won Polytechnique's prize for best doctoral dissertation in 2012.

The ADÉSAQ, which brings together the heads of graduate studies (master's and doctorates) at Québec universities, aims to promote the development, quality and effective organization of graduate studies in Québec universities, taking into account the students' conditions and statuses.

The Association des doyens des études supérieures au Québec (ADESAQ) and Quebec's three granting agencies offer a competition which intends to acknowledge a Ph.D. dissertation which has distinguished itself through its original and significant contribution to a field falling under the responsibility of each granting agency during the previous year.

The Fonds québécois de la recherche sur la nature et les technologies (FRQNT) (Nature and technology granting agency) sponsors a $2500 award in the field of natural sciences and engineering.
