Any industrial society uses the resources provided by essential infrastructure. Now these infrastructures can they even require the contribution of other resources provided by other networks to function properly. Thus, there are strong interdependencies between these networks through resources exchanged. An infrastructure failure or degradation of a resource can then cause a cascade of failures and harm other entities.
Knowledge of these interdependencies and domino effects that may result improves emergency planning measures specifying the role of each entity and prioritizing dependencies between critical infrastructure.
