As part of the Campus Montréal major fundraising campaign, which brings together HEC Montréal, Polytechnique Montréal and Université de Montréal, the Trottier Family Foundation is making a donation of $10 million to create the Trottier Energy Institute at Polytechnique Montréal. This donation is among the largest received by Campus Montréal.

Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue (UQAT) and Polytechnique Montréal are launching a joint research program, the only one of its kind in Québec: the Research Institute on Mines and Environment - RIME UQAT-Polytechnique (UQAT-Polytechnique). The program will have several mining industry partners: Agnico Eagle, Osisko Mining Corporation, IAMGOLD Corporation, Rio Tinto, Fer et Titane inc. and Xstrata Nickel Raglan Mine. With a value of nearly $10 million provided over seven years, this innovative partnership will produce a top-notch research program and train highly qualified professionals.

Caroline Villeneuve and Jordan Lemay are among the 2% to 3% of young Quebecers who have idiopathic scoliosis, a three-dimensional deformity of the spine that predominantly affects young girls, although the reason why is still not clearly understood. With the renewal of the NSERC/Medtronic Industrial Research Chair in Spine Biomechanics, whose Chairholder is Professor Carl-Éric Aubin of Polytechnique Montréal and Sainte-Justine University Hospital Centre, children and adults with spinal problems, like Caroline and Jordan, will benefit someday from the “surgery of the future” that researchers are currently working on.

A first for Canada: A Polytechnique Montréal rocket shoots to first place in the IREC 2012, an international astronautics competition held in the Utah desert

Oronos Polytechnique, a committee of 35 Polytechnique Montréal students who are passionate about astronautics, has just won first prize in the Intercollegiate Rocketry Engineering Competition (IREC 2012), an annual international university-level competition held by the Experimental Sounding Rocket Association in the Utah desert in the United States. This is the first time a Canadian team has won.
