18 Polytechnique student athletes make the sports excellence academic honour roll
This number surpassed the record of 85 that was set last year. While playing on one of the 17 Carabins teams, these athletes
maintained an average of 80% or higher in their respective study programs.
Considering that Polytechnique has 26 athletes who play for Les Carabins, the number 18 is impressive proof that our students
are making their mark! Among the 18 are five women and 13 men. It is also worth noting that two of the athletes are master's
students.
"This excellent news shows that the work we have done in recent years to encourage the double goals of our student athletes is
netting concrete results," says Manon Simard, Director of Athletic Programs at U de M. "This accomplishment is an important
indicator in evaluating our role with the various faculties and schools on our campus."
She adds: "We have high goals in terms of academic excellence. In fact we have just added a new staff member who will help us
move forward in implementing new measures to oversee studies."
