Nine students from Polytechnique among 83 Carabins on the academic honour roll
No fewer than 83 student athletes from various Carabins teams have earned a place on the academic honour roll of the sports excellence program at Université de Montréal for the 2012–2013 season. Fifty-seven of the students are from U de M, 17 from HEC Montréal and nine from Polytechnique Montréal.
While playing on one of the 19 Carabins teams that played during the last season, these athletes maintained an overall average of 80% or higher in their respective programs.
Of the 83 student athletes on the honour roll, 38 are women and 45 are men. As well, eight are master's students. During the previous season, 77 student athletes appeared on this prestigious list.
“Each year, many of our student athletes successfully attain a level of excellence in their studies while also pursuing their athletic careers at an elite level,” says Manon Simard, Director of Athletic Programs at U de M. “Because of their superb performance in both the classroom and in their respective sports, these future leaders serve not only as ambassadors for our institution, but also as role models for our youth.”
The swim team is best represented on the honour roll, with 13 student athletes. Recently added to the organization, the rugby teams also made a good showing with 16 athletes, five of them women and 11 men.
Renowned for their prowess in 11 different sports, the Carabins include nearly 450 athletes studying in almost all of U de M's faculties at the university's three campuses.
