Taking the mystery out of ICT: more than 1,000 high schoolers visit Polytechnique to get the real story about careers in information and communications technologies
On May 1, Polytechnique welcomed over 1,000 young people from four Montréal Island school boards.
The day, organized
by Éducation Montréal, TECHNOCompétences, TechnoMontréal and
Polytechnique Montréal during the Pôle TIC event, sought to attract more students into ICT programs in order to
meet growing corporate hiring needs. Students from the Pointe-de-l'île, Lester-B.-Pearson, Montréal and Marguerite-Bourgeoys
school boards were able to attend various presentations by industry professionals who spoke about their own career journeys,
their interests and their achievements.
During the day, 28 guidance counsellors were also on hand to attend a luncheon conference at which industry professionals were asked to share their vision of corporate ICT needs. The students who spent a half-day at Polytechnique were also able to meet with representatives of 13 major industry players, including Google and Ubisoft, who attended the event as exhibitors.
