Retired professor Dominique L. Piron was named a Commander of the French Ordre des Palmes académiques by Bruno Clerc, Consul General of France in Montréal, on December  6.

A former Polytechnique Montréal professor and researcher, Mr. Piron had been named  an Officer of the Order in 2001. His work in the following years has now been recognized by his elevation to Commander, the Order's highest rank. Only four people in Québec have been appointed Commanders of the Ordre des Palmes académiques.

Professor Piron has published many scientific articles and a reference manual in the field of electrochemistry. He is also the author of two historical books: "Souvenirs d'enfance et de guerre" and "Souvenirs du Château d'Avaray en 1949."

Professor Piron is an ardent defender of the French language who organized the annual Augustin-Frigon Lectures at Polytechnique for many years.

Our heartiest congratulations!
