Jonathan Vianou, a mechanical engineering student at École Polytechnique, has been named "Energy Ambassador" by the federal Office of Energy Efficiency.

Jonathan was awarded his title on March 18 during the 2005 Energy Efficiency Awards ceremony, organized by Natural Resources Canada. The ceremony was held at Ottawa's Château Laurier.

Energy-efficient humidification technology
In Canada, humidification is certainly less of a concern than heating or air conditioning. Nonetheless, it's an area where substantial energy savings in buildings are still possible.

Mr. Vianou examined humidification techniques that consume less energy than traditional steam humidification, which needs an electrical element to heat the water to the point of evaporation. He also developed simulation software that compares the electricity consumption of three types of humidifiers in any type of industrial building, while considering the building's conditions of use and specificity.

Jonathan's work was directed by Alberto Teyssedou, the Department of Physics professor responsible for the thermohydraulics laboratory at Polytechnique's Nuclear Engineering Institute.

A big hand for this innovative student!
