Renewal of the CEO's mandate
Holder of a PhD (1989) and MScA (1984) in chemical engineering from Polytechnique, Mr. Guy has been a full
professor since 1996. He was the Director of the Department of Chemical Engineering from 1995 to 2001, and Director of Research
and Innovation (DRI) from 2001 to 2007. Under his direction at the DRI, Polytechnique intensified its partnerships with
industry and realized a number of accomplishments, including the introduction of many Canada Research Chairs. Polytechnique has
established a world-class research infrastructure and positioned itself as a Canadian leader in engineering research and
innovation.
Since beginning his mandate as CEO in June 2007, Mr. Guy has focused his efforts on Polytechnique's development and recovery. His work has, among others, helped balance the difficult budgetary and financial situation that Polytechnique was facing, and improve the efficiency of the institution's activities in the areas of support as well as teaching and research. To fulfil Polytechnique's mission, Mr. Guy has, among other things, supported the hiring of new professors and course instructors, as well as high-quality staff. He is recognized for his clear vision and his knowledge of issues, and he is a proponent of strong university values, including that of academic collegiality. In recent years, Polytechnique's renown has expanded considerably thanks to the activities and accomplishments of members of its community.
During his second term as CEO, Mr. Guy will certainly build upon his successes attained in his first term and pursue Polytechnique's development in order to move the institution forward in its key role nationally and internationally in the field of engineering teaching and innovation.
