René Mayer, professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, is named a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE)

The IMechE is the fastest-growing professional engineering institution and learned society in the United Kingdom, with over 100,000 active members working in the country's most important and dynamic industries.

René Mayer began his career in the UK in 1989 and joined the IMechE first as a Chartered Engineer (CEng), then adding the title European Engineer (Eur Ing). In addition to his teaching duties, Professor Mayer is Director of Polytechnique's Virtual Manufacturing Research Laboratory, head of its Product Development and Manufacturing Research Group and co-ordinator of graduate programs in mechanical engineering. His research work is primarily in the field of precision engineering.

Fellowship in the IMechE is the organization's highest class of membership, recognizing exceptional commitment to mechanical engineering.
